Sermon for July 15, 2007: Dirty Sinners
The next-to-the-last sentence in today’s epistle reading is the sentence that I have put my hope and spiritual life in for the last thirty-eight years. It’s one of the, if not the most, important passages in the whole of the New Testament.
[Paul] says, this is what He has done, this is what God has done: He has rescued us from the power of darkness, the ruling force of darkness, the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the Kingdom of the Son that He loves.
Incredible. I’ve bet my life that that’s true.
…For those of who don’t know, I served in a Marine counterintelligence unit in Vietnam. And there were a lot of things that rocked my world when I came home, not unlike the thousands of people who are coming home now. And that was the best news that I had ever heard. That I was rescued from the power of darkness.
