The “Mystical Season” begins!
Dear Friends in Christ,
The Gospel reading for this coming Sunday describes the healing of a blind man. In Mark’s Gospel, this is Our Lord’s concluding action before his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. It’s an appropriate reading, because we are entering the concluding weeks of the Church Year. These weeks are unofficially called the “Mystical Seasonâ€, because the Sunday readings deal with the Communion of Saints, the End of Time and the Final Destiny of all Creation.
This Mystical Season begins with All Saints’ Day (Sunday, November 1st) and concludes with the Feast of Christ the King (Sunday, November 22nd).
On Sunday, November 1st, We will celebrate All Saints’ Day with one glorious liturgy at 10:30 AM (no 8:00 AM liturgy), which will include the baptism of Cora Mae Holihan.
On Monday, November 2nd, we will observe All Souls’ Day with a Requiem Eucharist at 7:30 PM. At that Eucharist we will be experimenting with a new usage of our sacred space. (Sheets to enter the names of those you wish to have commemorated can be found in the undercroft on Sunday, November 25th.) You are encouraged to bring remembrance items of those being commemorated for display in the baptistry.
A coffee hour will be held in the undercroft following the All Souls’ Requiem. You are invited to bring cookies or dessert items to share, whose recipes are well loved remembrances of those being commemorated. (Please provide a brief identification note to place with the sweets, so that we all can share your memories.)
On Saturday, November 21st at 7:30 PM we will have a vocal concert to celebrate the Feast of Christ the King, and the conclusion of the Church Year. This is a good opportunity to invite friends and family to experience Redeemer’s music program. Refreshments will be served following the concert.
Our 9:30 AM Sunday Adult Education will feature the following topics in the coming weeks:
10/25: All Souls’: The Importance of Remembering & Commemorating
11/8: The Reign of God: Future & Present
11/15: The Reign of God: Future & Present
11/22, Christ the King: Making Advent Work for You This Year
As you can see, much is happening at Redeemer in the coming weeks. I look forward to all of us being together on the concluding Sundays of this Church Year!!
Peace, Love & Joy!
JOHN
