From Hiroshima to Hope 20th Annual Lantern Floating Peace Ceremony
(This year’s ceremony commemorates the 60th anniversary of the
bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.)
Friday, August 6
6:00 – 9:30 pm
7312 West Green Lake Drive North
Green Lake, Seattle
(just south of the Bathhouse Theater on the northwest shore of Green Lake)
6:00 pm –people gather for lantern calligraphy and folding of peace cranes
7:30 pm – program of musical performances and speakers (Taiko, Silk
Strings, choirs, Koto, and Shakuhachi, “The Story of Sadako,”
dramatization, directed by Manuel Cawaling)
9:00 pm – Toro Nagashi lantern floating ceremony in remembrance of the
victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and all victims of war and violence

From Hiroshima to Hope has been created by local peace, faith and
community organizations every August 6 since the mid-1980s. The
Seattle event has grown to the largest anywhere outside of Japan. More than a thousand participants are expected this year.
St. Mark’s Cathedral, Seattle and St. Peter’s, Seattle are among the
many sponsors of this annual peace event.
