Northwest textile artist Deborah Gregory contributes two pieces to our exhibit. She says this about “Particle and Wave”:

This is an abstraction of the particle and wave theory of physics that seeks to understand how matter exists and behaves. My thought is that this theory tries to explain God, and to me silence is God and is the great mystery of our lives.

You can see more of Deborah’s work on her website , and you can e-mail her at DebKGreg@aol.com.

Be Still and Know
“Be Still And Know”, textile painting, ©Faith Alexander 2007

This entry is from one of our parishioners, a very active member of our Ecclesiastical Arts Committee, Faith Alexander. I’ve dubbed it a textile painting, sort of a painted quilt/wall-hanging. You can contact Faith at fcalexander@earthlink.net.

Faith says: The title “Be Still and Know” is taken from the Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” A figure floats in a bubble of calm amid a busy stream. Warm washes and bits of bright color represent the frenzy of what the outside world calls ‘holiday season’ while Advent blue and purple sustain a meditative atmosphere.

The Advent 2006 altar at Redeemer
Originally uploaded by Church of the Redeemer.

After many hours of hard work, some hair-raising adventures, and lots of last minute scrambling, all of the Advent 2006 artwork is in place for tonight’s Lesson and Carols service. The altarpiece and the children’s banner are up. The frontal is draped tastefully over the altar. The paintings for the exhibition are hung. Hooray!

You can see the whole process in our Advent 2006 artwork photoset on Flickr. While you do that, I’m going to go collapse.
