DESCRIPTION:Come\, join us on Saturday\, January 6\, 2024\, at 5:00 pm for a festive potluck dinner as we begin the season of Epiphany! All members of our parish and the surrounding community are most welcome to attend. If you can read this\, you are invited. \n\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you for a fun\, and food filled community gathering. \n\n\n\nContribute to the Community Dinner\n\n\n\nTo contribute an appetizer\, side dish\, or dessert\, sign up at Sign-up for 12th Night Potluck. \n\n\n\nA vegetarian dish and a main dish will be provided\, along with beverages. \n\n\n\nOrganize games\n\n\n\nWe are also looking for someone to organize fun inter-generational games to make the evening even more fun. Please contact Susan Switzer (susan.switzer@redeemer-kenmore.org) if you are interested. \n\n\n\nWhat is “Twelfth Night”\n\n\n\nTwelfth Night (also known as Epiphany Eve) is a Christian festival on the last night of the Twelve Days of Christmas\, marking the coming of the Epiphany. \n\n\n\nFood and drink are the center of the celebrations in modern times. All of the most traditional ones go back many centuries. In some countries\, Twelfth Night and Epiphany mark the start of the Carnival season\, which lasts through Mardi Gras. \n\n\n\nThe poem “Twelfth Night” by Laurie Lee \n\n\n\n\nNo night could be darker than this night\,No cold so cold\,As the blood snaps like a wire\,And the heart’s sap stills\,And the year seems defeated. \n\n\n\nO never again\, it seems\, can green things run\,Or sky birds fly\,Or the grass exhale its humming breathPowdered with pimpernels\,From this dark lung of winter. \n\n\n\nYet here are lessons for the final mileOf pilgim kings;The mile still left when all have reachedTheir tether’s end: that mileWhere the Child lies hid. \n\n\n\nFor see\, beneath the hand\, the earth alreadyWarms and glows;For men with shepherd’s eyes there areSigns in the dark\, the turning stars\,The lamb’s returning time. \n\n\n\nOut of this utter death he’s born again\,His birth our saviour;From terror’s equinox he climbs and grows\,Drawing his finger’s light across our blood –The sun of heaven\, and the son of god. \nLaurie Lee
