SUMMARY:Counselor Training
DESCRIPTION:This is for campers 16+ and completed 10th grade\, and have applied for a position. \n\n\n\nWe spend a lot of time in Discovery Groups\, which consist of two cabins of similarly-aged campers\, their counselors\, and a Discovery Group Leader. Every group is unique and has an identity all its own. There will be games\, songs\, hikes\, team-building activities\, camp outs\, archery\, swimming\, crafts\, and a time for reflection at the end of each day. \n\n\n\nOutside of our Discovery Groups\, the whole community joins for meals in Curtis Lodge\, as well a campfire\, a variety show\, and a dance during the week. \n\n\n\nAn Episcopal priest from the Diocese of Olympia joins us every session to provide counsel and participate in program activities.  They also help Discovery Groups plan chapel for each night. We hope that you’ll make friends\, experience nature and have fun! \n\n\n\nRules for acceptance and participation are the same for everyone regardless of race\, color\, religion (creed)\, sex\, gender expression (identity)\, national origin (ancestry)\, or sexual orientation. \n\n\n\n\nRegister for summer camp.\n\n\n\n\nLet’s talk about Camp Huston!\n\n\n\nCamp Huston is an Episcopal summer camp and conference center in the Cascade foothills\, about an hour east of Seattle\, WA. \n\n\n\nOur conference center facilities are available to rent for religious\, non-profit\, and educational groups for conferences\, retreats\, and events. Camp Huston runs our own programs year round\, including summer camp\, family camp and craft retreats. \n\n\n\nEveryone has different things that draw them to Camp Huston. If you’re a conference guest\, our meeting spaces are cozy and welcoming\, while our summer campers love our outdoor heated pool. Summer camp parents leave outstanding reviews of our program and their campers often return as staff. Teri\, our Kitchen Manager\, is ready to accommodate most dietary needs\, which makes our meals a highlight for any and all who attend Camp Huston! \n\n\n\nCamp Huston is a part of the missionary outreach program of the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia and our summer camp program is accredited by the American Camp Association. We love what we do\, and we hope to see you at camp sometime soon! \n\n\n\nRead more about the summer camping program at Camp Houston.

For he created all things so that they might exist; the generative forces of the world are wholesome\, and there is no destructive poison in them\, and the dominion of Hades is not on earth. For righteousness is immortal. For God created us for incorruption\, and made us in the image of his own eternity\, but through the devil’s envy death entered the world\, and those who belong to his company experience it. \n\n\n\nResponse: Lamentations 3:22-33 or Psalm 30 (BCP)\n\n\n\nLamentations 3:22-33 (NRSV)\n\n\n\n22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases\,   his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning;   great is your faithfulness. 24 ‘The Lord is my portion\,’ says my soul\,   ‘therefore I will hope in him.’  \n\n\n\n25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him\,   to the soul that seeks him. 26 It is good that one should wait quietly   for the salvation of the Lord. 27 It is good for one to bear   the yoke in youth\, 28 to sit alone in silence   when the Lord has imposed it\, 29 to put one’s mouth to the dust   (there may yet be hope)\, 30 to give one’s cheek to the smiter\,   and be filled with insults.  \n\n\n\n31 For the Lord will not   reject for ever. 32 Although he causes grief\, he will have compassion   according to the abundance of his steadfast love; 33 for he does not willingly afflict   or grieve anyone. \n\n\n\nPsalm 30 (BCP)\n\n\n\nExaltabo te\, Domine \n\n\n\n1 I will exalt you\, O Lord\, because you have lifted me up *     and have not let my enemies triumph over me.2 O Lord my God\, I cried out to you\, *     and you restored me to health.3 You brought me up\, O Lord\, from the dead; *     you restored my life as I was going down to the grave.4 Sing to the Lord\, you servants of his; *     give thanks for the remembrance of his holiness.5 For his wrath endures but the twinkling of an eye\, *     his favor for a lifetime.6 Weeping may spend the night\, *     but joy comes in the morning.7 While I felt secure\, I said\, “I shall never be disturbed. *     You\, Lord\, with your favor\, made me as strong as the mountains.”8 Then you hid your face\, *     and I was filled with fear.9 I cried to you\, O Lord; *     I pleaded with the Lord\, saying\,10 “What profit is there in my blood\, if I go down to the Pit? *     will the dust praise you or declare your faithfulness?11 Hear\, O Lord\, and have mercy upon me; *     O Lord\, be my helper.”12 You have turned my wailing into dancing; *     you have put off my sack-cloth and clothed me with joy.13 Therefore my heart sings to you without ceasing; *     O Lord my God\, I will give you thanks for ever. \n\n\n\n2 Corinthians 8:7-15 (NRSV)\n\n\n\nNow as you excel in everything—in faith\, in speech\, in knowledge\, in utmost eagerness\, and in our love for you—so we want you to excel also in this generous undertaking. I do not say this as a command\, but I am testing the genuineness of your love against the earnestness of others. For you know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ\, that though he was rich\, yet for your sakes he became poor\, so that by his poverty you might become rich. And in this matter I am giving my advice: it is appropriate for you who began last year not only to do something but even to desire to do something—now finish doing it\, so that your eagerness may be matched by completing it according to your means. For if the eagerness is there\, the gift is acceptable according to what one has—not according to what one does not have. I do not mean that there should be relief for others and pressure on you\, but it is a question of a fair balance between your present abundance and their need\, so that their abundance may be for your need\, in order that there may be a fair balance. As it is written\, “The one who had much did not have too much\, and the one who had little did not have too little.” \n\n\n\nMark 5:21-43 (NRSV)\n\n\n\nWhen Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side\, a great crowd gathered around him; and he was by the sea. Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and\, when he saw him\, fell at his feet and begged him repeatedly\, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her\, so that she may be made well\, and live.” So he went with him. And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years. She had endured much under many physicians\, and had spent all that she had; and she was no better\, but rather grew worse. She had heard about Jesus\, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak\, for she said\, “If I but touch his clothes\, I will be made well.” Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him\, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said\, “Who touched my clothes?” And his disciples said to him\, “You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say\, ‘Who touched me?’” He looked all around to see who had done it. But the woman\, knowing what had happened to her\, came in fear and trembling\, fell down before him\, and told him the whole truth. He said to her\, “Daughter\, your faith has made you well; go in peace\, and be healed of your disease.” While he was still speaking\, some people came from the leader’s house to say\, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?” But overhearing what they said\, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue\, “Do not fear\, only believe.” He allowed no one to follow him except Peter\, James\, and John\, the brother of James. When they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue\, he saw a commotion\, people weeping and wailing loudly. When he had entered\, he said to them\, “Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. Then he put them all outside\, and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him\, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her\, “Talitha cum\,” which means\, “Little girl\, get up!” And immediately the girl got up and began to walk about (she was twelve years of age). At this they were overcome with amazement. He strictly ordered them that no one should know this\, and told them to give her something to eat. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Old Testament\, New Testament and Gospel readings are from the New Revised Standard Version Bible: Anglicized Edition\, copyright 1989\, 1995\, Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. SUMMARY:In-person Holy Eucharist
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome at Church of the Redeemer. We look forward to seeing you at this 8:00 am Sunday service of Holy Eucharist at Church of the Redeemer. It is in-person only. \n\n\n\nWhile not required\, you may wear a mask when in the building. We have masks available for you\, if you want. \n\n\n\nEucharist\n\n\n\nThe Eucharist is the sacrament of Christ’s body and blood\, and the principal act of Christian worship. The term is from the Greek\, “thanksgiving.” \n\n\n\nJesus instituted the Eucharist “on the night when he was betrayed.” At the Last Supper he shared the bread and cup of wine at a sacred meal with his disciples. He identified the bread with his body and the wine with his blood of the new covenant. Jesus commanded his disciples to “do this” in remembrance of him (see 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Mark 14:22-25; Matthew 26:26-29; Luke 22:14-20). \n\n\n\nChrist’s sacrifice is made present by the Eucharist\, and in it we are united to his one self-offering (Book of Common Prayer\, p. 859). The Last Supper provides the basis for the fourfold Eucharistic action of taking\, blessing\, breaking\, and sharing. Christ’s body and blood are really present in the sacrament of the Eucharist and received by faith. Christ’s presence is also known in the gathered eucharistic community. \n\n\n\nIn the Book of Common Prayer\, the whole service is entitled the Holy Eucharist. \n\n\n\n\nThe first part of the service is designated the Word of God. It usually includes the entrance rite\, the lessons and gradual psalm\, the gospel\, the sermon\, the Nicene Creed\, the Prayers of the People\, the confession of sin and absolution\, and the Peace.\n\n\n\nThe second portion of the service is designated the Holy Communion. It includes the offertory\, the consecration of the bread and wine in the Great Thanksgiving\, the communion of the people\, and the concluding prayers of thanksgiving and dismissal. A blessing may be given prior to the dismissal.\n\n\n\n\nThe Eucharist is also called the Lord’s Supper\, Holy Communion\, the Divine Liturgy\, the Mass\, and the Great Offertory (BCP\, p. 859). \n\n\n\nThe Hymnal 1982 includes a section with a variety of hymns for the Holy Eucharist (Numbers 300 through 347)\, including “Come\, risen Lord\, and deign to be our guest” (305 and 306)\, “My God\, thy table now is spread” (321)\, “Now\, my tongue\, the mystery telling” (329 through 331)\, and “I am the bread of life” (335). \n\n\n\n(Above taken from Eucharist .)
