DESCRIPTION:The holiday season is upon us! This time of year is about practicing gratitude and giving to others. Hopelink Kenmore Place\, just around the corner from Episcopal Church of the Redeemer\, provides transitional housing community for 11 families experiencing housing insecurity. Throughout the month of November\, we are collecting monetary donations to purchase a $100 gift card for each family. These cards will be given to the families before Thanksgiving. If you would like to donate towards a gift card\, you may do so on the Giving page on the Redeemer website. By selecting this link\, your gift will automatically go to Outreach – Hopelink Kenmore Programs. You won’t need to select that from the menu.The families facing housing insecurity at Kenmore Place appreciate the help you provide.Stay tuned for more ways that we will be helping these families in the month of December.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHopelink\n\n\n\nSince 1971\, Hopelink has provided programs for people experiencing poverty\, immigrants and refugees\, and people with disabilities in north and east King County. Its Transportation programs services the entire King County and into Snohomish County. DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome at Church of the Redeemer. We look forward to seeing you at this 8:00 am Sunday service of Holy Eucharist at Church of the Redeemer. It is in-person only. \n\n\n\nWhile not required\, you may wear a mask when in the building. We have masks available for you\, if you want. \n\n\n\nEucharist\n\n\n\nThe Eucharist is the sacrament of Christ’s body and blood\, and the principal act of Christian worship. The term is from the Greek\, “thanksgiving.” \n\n\n\nJesus instituted the Eucharist “on the night when he was betrayed.” At the Last Supper he shared the bread and cup of wine at a sacred meal with his disciples. He identified the bread with his body and the wine with his blood of the new covenant. Jesus commanded his disciples to “do this” in remembrance of him (see 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Mark 14:22-25; Matthew 26:26-29; Luke 22:14-20). \n\n\n\nChrist’s sacrifice is made present by the Eucharist\, and in it we are united to his one self-offering (Book of Common Prayer\, p. 859). The Last Supper provides the basis for the fourfold Eucharistic action of taking\, blessing\, breaking\, and sharing. Christ’s body and blood are really present in the sacrament of the Eucharist and received by faith. Christ’s presence is also known in the gathered eucharistic community. \n\n\n\nIn the Book of Common Prayer\, the whole service is entitled the Holy Eucharist. \n\n\n\n\nThe first part of the service is designated the Word of God. It usually includes the entrance rite\, the lessons and gradual psalm\, the gospel\, the sermon\, the Nicene Creed\, the Prayers of the People\, the confession of sin and absolution\, and the Peace.\n\n\n\nThe second portion of the service is designated the Holy Communion. It includes the offertory\, the consecration of the bread and wine in the Great Thanksgiving\, the communion of the people\, and the concluding prayers of thanksgiving and dismissal. A blessing may be given prior to the dismissal.\n\n\n\n\nThe Eucharist is also called the Lord’s Supper\, Holy Communion\, the Divine Liturgy\, the Mass\, and the Great Offertory (BCP\, p. 859). \n\n\n\nThe Hymnal 1982 includes a section with a variety of hymns for the Holy Eucharist (Numbers 300 through 347)\, including “Come\, risen Lord\, and deign to be our guest” (305 and 306)\, “My God\, thy table now is spread” (321)\, “Now\, my tongue\, the mystery telling” (329 through 331)\, and “I am the bread of life” (335). \n\n\n\n(Above taken from Eucharist .)

DESCRIPTION:Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses\, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that easily distracts\, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us…. \n\n\n\nHebrews 12:1 (NRSV\, with footnote) \n\n\n\n\nIn Walking among saints\, we will explore the lives and thinking of several holy people. Then we will consider what we can learn from each.  \n\n\n\nDo you have a saint that has influenced your life? Contact the Rev. Theresa Newell if you would like to share your saint in our Adult Christian Education class. \n\n\n\nThis exploration takes place at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer starting on Sunday\, October 27\, 2024\, starting at 9:30 am and running each Sunday until November 24. The class is free and open to everyone in the community. You do not need to be a member of Church of the Redeemer. \n\n\n\nThis adult class meets on the main floor in the worship area.
