Fr. Jed will be blessing animals from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. This event is free. We invite everyone in the community. \n\n\n\nPlease make sure you have your pets restrained or controlled. This keeps them and others safe.  \n\n\n\nKenmore Town Square is at  6728 Northeast 181st Street\, about 0.4 miles east of the church campus. \n\n\n\nThese are pictures from some previous animal blessings at the Redeemer campus and at Town Square. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrancis of Assisi\n\n\n\nFrancis of Assisi (1181 or 1182-Oct. 3\, 1226) was a thirteenth-century saint and founder of the Franciscan order. He was born in Assisi in central Italy and named Giovanni Bernardone. His father changed his name to Francesco\, “the Frenchman\,” after a visit to France. \n\n\n\nFrancis’s gradual conversion began in the spring of 1205. He gave generously to the poor and became devoted to “Lady Poverty.” Francis stressed absolute simplicity of life marked by poverty\, humility\, and contemplation of Christ. Others gathered around him. \n\n\n\n\nOn February 24\, 1209\, the Order of Friars Minor (Fratres minores)\, sometimes called Minorites\, was founded. In England they were popularly called Grey Friars because of the color of their habit. \n\n\n\nThe Second Order of St. Francis\, known as the Poor Clares\, was established for nuns in 1219. \n\n\n\nThe Third Order for lay men and women was founded in 1221. \n\n\n\n\nFrancis is especially remembered for his writing\, “The Canticle of Brother Sun.” The Hymnal 1982 includes two hymn texts written by Francis\, “All creatures of our God and King” (400) and “Most High\, omnipotent\, good Lord” (406-407). \n\n\n\nThe hymn text “Lord make us servants of your peace” (593) is based on a prayer attributed to Francis. \n\n\n\nHe died in Assisi. Francis is commemorated in the Episcopal calendar of the church year on October 4. \n\n\n\nFrancis is the patron saint of animals and the environment. The meditation may be silent or accompanied by audio intended to help facilitate the practice. However\, newcomers need not feel obligated to contribute. We do not accept donations from organizations or individuals outside the Fellowship. \n\n\n\nWe are not allied with any sect\, denomination\, politics\, organization or institution. \n\n\n\nIn order to maintain our integrity and avoid any possible complications\, we are not affiliated with any outside organization. The first step towards solving any problem is admitting that there is a problem. \n\n\n\n12 steps of Cocaine Anonymous\n\n\n\n\nWe admitted we were powerless over cocaine and all other mind-altering substances—that our lives had become unmanageable.\n\n\n\nCame to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.\n\n\n\nMade a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.\n\n\n\nMade a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.\n\n\n\nAdmitted to God\, to ourselves\, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.\n\n\n\nWere entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.\n\n\n\nHumbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.\n\n\n\nMade a list of all persons we had harmed\, and became willing to make amends to them all.\n\n\n\nMade direct amends to such people wherever possible\, except when to do so would injure them or others.\n\n\n\nContinued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.\n\n\n\nSought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him\, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.\n\n\n\nHaving had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps\, we tried to carry this message to addicts\, and to practice these principles in all our affairs. God’s saving will for his people is made known in the Hebrew Scriptures through the gift of the Law in the Ten Commandments and through the witness of the prophets. \n\n\n\nThe Christian Scriptures describe the life\, death\, and resurrection of Jesus Christ\, the Messiah\, whose coming was foretold in the Hebrew Scriptures. The term is from the Greek\, “thanksgiving.” \n\n\n\nJesus instituted the Eucharist “on the night when he was betrayed.” At the Last Supper he shared the bread and cup of wine at a sacred meal with his disciples. He identified the bread with his body and the wine with his blood of the new covenant. Jesus commanded his disciples to “do this” in remembrance of him (see 1 Cor 11:23-26; Mk 14:22-25; Mt 26:26-29; Lk 22:14-20). \n\n\n\nChrist’s sacrifice is made present by the Eucharist\, and in it we are united to his one self-offering (Book of Common Prayer\, p. 859). The Last Supper provides the basis for the fourfold Eucharistic action of taking\, blessing\, breaking\, and sharing. Christ’s body and blood are really present in the sacrament of the Eucharist and received by faith. Christ’s presence is also known in the gathered eucharistic community. \n\n\n\nIn the Book of Common Prayer\, the whole service is entitled the Holy Eucharist. \n\n\n\n\nThe first part of the service is designated the Word of God. The term is from the Greek\, “thanksgiving.” \n\n\n\nJesus instituted the Eucharist “on the night when he was betrayed.” At the Last Supper he shared the bread and cup of wine at a sacred meal with his disciples. He identified the bread with his body and the wine with his blood of the new covenant. Jesus commanded his disciples to “do this” in remembrance of him (see 1 Cor 11:23-26; Mk 14:22-25; Mt 26:26-29; Lk 22:14-20). \n\n\n\nChrist’s sacrifice is made present by the Eucharist\, and in it we are united to his one self-offering (Book of Common Prayer\, p. 859). The Last Supper provides the basis for the fourfold Eucharistic action of taking\, blessing\, breaking\, and sharing. Christ’s body and blood are really present in the sacrament of the Eucharist and received by faith. Christ’s presence is also known in the gathered eucharistic community. \n\n\n\nIn the Book of Common Prayer\, the whole service is entitled the Holy Eucharist. \n\n\n\n\nThe first part of the service is designated the Word of God. It usually includes the entrance rite\, the lessons and gradual psalm\, the gospel\, the sermon\, the Nicene Creed\, the Prayers of the People\, the confession of sin and absolution\, and the Peace.\n\n\n\nThe second portion of the service is designated the Holy Communion. It includes the offertory\, the consecration of the bread and wine in the Great Thanksgiving\, the communion of the people\, and the concluding prayers of thanksgiving and dismissal.
