    The Episcopal Diocese of Olympia

Map of the Diocese of Olympia

The Episcopal Diocese of Olympia traces its history to the establishment of the Missionary Jurisdiction of the Oregon and Washington Territories in 1853. Admitted by General Convention in 1910, the Diocese of Olympia is made up of more than 26,000 Episcopalians in more than 100 worshiping communities through Western Washington. Our geographic area stretches south from Canada to Oregon and west from the foothills of the Cascade Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.

    Through worship we:

    • Affirm our faith
    • Pray together
    • Reconcile together
    • Share peace and thanksgiving together
    • Gain strength and renewal through Eucharist
    • Prepare ourselves to minister to the world.

We share hope in God’s incredibly extensive grace to forgive all repentant people.

  • Seasonal giving for those experiencing housing insecurity

Seasonal giving for those experiencing housing insecurity

Every year for more than 30 years, Church of the Redeemer has provided help during this time of year to the 11 families living at Hopelink Kenmore Place. There are a few different ways you can help.

Thank you for the help you provide these families. Reach out to Michelle Henderson with any questions at hkp@redeemer-kenmore.org.

We need your help to assist those facing housing insecurity. There are two ways to help. Can you help us help others?

Money to buy food gift cards

Each family receives a $100 gift card for food at Thanksgiving and a second $100 gift card in December. This means we need to collect $2200 for 22 cards by December 17.

Church of the Redeemer provides support to Hopelink Kenmore Place throughout the year. Any extra money raised for food gift cards at this time will go to other support for those at Kenmore Place.

Purchase a welcome gift for a child or teen

When a child or teen moves with their family into Hopelink Kenmore Place, they may have anxiety. To help them feel welcome, they are offered a gift that they choose. This can bring some comfort during a time of stress and change.

We collect these welcome gifts at Redeemer now to be offered year-round. (These are not holiday gifts.) We bring them to the Kenmore Place staff in January. Bring your unwrapped gift to Redeemer by December 17. There is a box to put your gift in the room where we worship.

  • 2023 School Supply Drive results

    2023 School Supply Drive results

In August 2023, Church of the Redeemer in Kenmore, Washington, sponsored a school supply drive for the families experiencing housing insecurity at Hopelink Kenmore Place. Donors filled 17 backpacks for kids ranging from 4 years old to 17 years old! With community help, these students start their year on an equal footing with their peers.

It costs about $50 to fill a backpack for an elementary-aged student. It costs about $100 for a backpack for middle and high school students. This is a huge barrier for those experiencing homelessness.

Church of the Redeemer provides regular support to families at Kenmore Place throughout the year. Then there are times, such as this, where extra support is provided.

    Thank you for caring.

  • School supply donation drive for Hopelink Kenmore Place families

School supply donation drive for Hopelink Kenmore Place families

Soon children will be returning to school. This includes the children in families experiencing housing insecurity. For over five years, Church of the Redeemer in Kenmore, Washington, has had a school supply drive for these families at Hopelink Kenmore Place. You can help.

“My mother was a teacher. From her, I learned the importance of being ready to learn when the school year starts,” says Susan Switzer, who heads this drive. “School supplies are so expensive. Families experiencing homelessness have no money to spare to buy supplies for their children.”

This year’s drive lasts from now until August 20, 2023. Hopelink has given Redeemer the list of items needed. Go to bit.ly/COR-HKPdonations to donate items from this list or to donate money.

Because people give to this school supply drive, a child facing housing insecurity will have pencils when school starts.

    Donate school supplies

To donate school supplies, from bit.ly/COR-HKPdonations choose from the on-line catalog. It works as an on-line store because it uses store software. Once you’ve selected your donations, go to your favorite store to buy them, and bring them to Redeemer. Deliver them to the main doors at Redeemer on Sunday mornings from now through August 20, 2023.

Do not deliver your donations during the week, as there are times when no one can receive your donations. Do not bring your donations to the parish hall on the lower level.

    Donate money

Redeemer accepts money donations for this drive, too. Things always happen that cannot go into the plans, like new residents. From bit.ly/COR-HKPdonations, use the link to donate money earmarked for the school supply drive. Any extra funds received will go to Redeemer’s other outreach efforts with Kenmore Place.

Before loading the backpacks with school supplies in 2022.

    Load the backpacks

Everyone is invited to load the backpacks with school supplies on Sunday, August 27, after the 10:30 am service.

Later that week the loaded backpacks will be taken to Kenmore Place.

    Questions

If you have any questions, Susan Switzer and Jillian Gerke are spearheading the school supply drive this year. In addition to talking to them on Sunday mornings, you can send a message to hkpschoolsupplies@redeemer-kenmore.org.

    Thank you for caring.
