    AdventWord 2024

AdventWord is an inspirational online Advent calendar featuring a daily prompt word selected from the Sunday Lectionary readings. Followers receive a daily meditation and image inspired by the day’s word, and are invited to share their own personal reflections, art, poetry, or other creative expression.

As we await the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we invite you to find quiet moments of reflection to help you stay connected to your faith, to others, and to God.

There are many ways to participate in AdventWord! And all of them are correct! Here are a few ideas:

    • Read and pray over the daily emailed meditation during Advent
    • Connect and discuss the day’s word with other disciples on our social media pages
    • Share your own personal meditation to inspire others—whether visual or written. Haikus and poems, paintings, photographs, personal reflections, and more are all encouraged.

AdventWord is an offering of Forward Movement, a ministry of the Episcopal Church. Learn more about our ministry at forwardmovement.org.

To support AdventWord and all of Forward Movement’s offerings, consider making a donation.

    How AdventWord Works

We choose a single word from the Sunday Lectionary readings for each day of the season of Advent. Shared in English and Spanish, we provide a daily meditation and visual image inspired by this word and invite your personal reflections via social media.

The daily meditations are sent as follows:

    • Posted on AdventWord.org
    • Emailed to participants
    • Shared on our Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts.

Around the world, prayers ascend in response to the daily meditations. People share their own reflections and visual art on their social media profiles, tagging #AdventWord to share with the wider community.

    AdventWord

Forward Movement has announced the 2022 reflection words for AdventWord, a global online advent calendar and community of disciples. For nearly a decade AdventWord has inspired followers of Jesus who wish to add an accessible prayer practice to their daily routine during this holy season.

Daily meditations and images—inspired by a prompt word selected from the daily lectionary readings—will be released at adventword.org, beginning Sunday, November 27, 2022.

Participants can sign up to receive this daily message, in English and Spanish, by email, or by following AdventWord on social media.

Many followers join the creativity each year by sharing their own personal reflections across social media using #AdventWord. Participants respond with photos, written responses, crafts, drawings, poems, found art, and other creative expressions inspired by the day’s selected word.

“This year we enlisted volunteer community members to help with the selection of prompt words from the daily lectionary readings,” said Richelle Thompson, managing editor at Forward Movement. “The online gathering of dozens of AdventWord community members was an inspiring way to kick off the planning for 2022 and a strong reminder that AdventWord is community-driven.”
