    Church of the Redeemer

Welcome to Church of the Redeemer: Worshiping God, living in community, and reaching out to the world. We are an Episcopal Church serving north King County and south Snohomish County, Washington. As you travel your road, go with friends walking the way of Jesus at Redeemer.

Church of the Redeemer is at 6220 Northeast 181st Street in Kenmore, Washington. We are a short distance north of Bothell Way, near the Burke-Gilman Trail. The entrance looks like a gravel driveway. The campus is larger on the inside than it is on the outside. And we managed to hide a large building on the side of a hill that is not easily seen from the street.

    The Episcopal Church welcomes you.

  • What is next for Church of the Redeemer?

What is next for Church of the Redeemer?

During the Easter season, we will use our Adult Education time to discuss what is next for Church of the Redeemer. We will organize our discussion around three areas of our common life:

    1. Our “Why” – May 4, May 11, and May 18

The deep call of the spirit for our congregation that drives our ministry. This is the principle, the lens through which our decisions are made.

    2. Our Neighbors – May 25th

How our “why” connects to what the community around us needs and what the community has to offer us.

    3. Redefining Success – June 1st

What is the Church of the Redeemer that God is hoping for? Where might the Spirit be leading us?

These free gatherings will be in the main floor at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. If you have any questions, contact Fr. Jedediah Fox, rector@redeemer-kenmore.org.

  • Walking among saints

    Walking among saints

Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that easily distracts, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.

    Hebrews 12:1 (NRSV, with footnote)

In Walking among saints, we will explore the lives and thinking of several holy people. Then we will consider what we can learn from each.

This exploration takes place at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer starting on Sunday, October 27, 2024, starting at 9:30 am and running each Sunday until November 24. The class is free and open to everyone in the community. You do not need to be a member of Church of the Redeemer.

    • October 27.  Join us as we separate myth from what is known of St. Mary Magdelene, “disciple to the disciples.” Presented by the Rev. Theresa Newell.
    • November 3.  Experience and understand what it means to be truly humble from the perspective of St. Therese of Lisieux. Presented by the Rev. Theresa Newell.
    • November 10. Find out about St. Kevin, known as the founder and first abbot of Glendalough in County Wicklow, Ireland. Presented by the Rev. Jed Fox.
    • November 17. Consider what is important or permissible in worship as we consider the ideas and history of Nicholas Ridley, one of the Oxford Martyrs. Presented by Earl Beede.
    • November 24. Delve into the thought and experiences of St. Francis and St. Clare, cofounders of a religious movement whose values run counter to the culture of their times (and ours). Presented by Barry McAllister and Marsha Goss.

This adult class meets on the main floor in the worship area. A different class for children meets in a room off of the downstairs parish hall.

  • Healing our Image of God

    Healing our Image of God

When you think of God, what images come to mind?

    • A judge?
    • An advocate?
    • A loving parent?

Our image of God makes quite a difference in our attitudes in life and our emotional health. We actually become like the God we adore.

In this series we will do the following:

    • Examine our images of God.
    • Investigate the potential of spiritual wounds caused by these images.
    • Investigate the shift of images of God in spiritual development.
    • Discuss concepts such as judgement, justice, punishment, and hell.

Come, consider who God is for you.

This exploration takes place at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer starting on Sunday, October 6, 2024, starting at 9:30 am and running for several weeks. The class is free and open to everyone in the community. You do not need to be a member of Church of the Redeemer.

This adult class will happen on the main floor of the worship area. (A different class for children will occur in a room off of the downstairs parish hall.)

Richard Rohr: Your Image of God Creates You

You need to abandon God to find God

    By Fr. Thomas Reese, SJ

Many people give up on religion when what they really need to do is change their image of God and how they relate to him. Too many people, when they grow older, give up on the God they learned about as children. What they really need to do is think about God in a more mature way.

Adult Christian Formation for Epiphany 2024

    Icon of Saint Mark

    The Gospel According to Mark

Our Sunday (Eucharistic) lectionary runs on a three-year cycle. This liturgical year in 2024, Year B, we focus on readings from the Gospel according to Mark. On January 14 and 28, and on February 4, we’ll get a bird’s eye overview of this book.

We will have a break for the Annual Meeting on January 21. There is only one service that day at 10:00 am.

After the information session on January 14, please prepare for the following classes. Read the Gospel according to Mark sometime during before the next class. See what you notice by reading the Gospel, in one sitting if possible. It should take less than an hour and a half. You may stop at 16:8, Mark’s original ending.

Try to read only what’s there. Do not fill in with what you know from other Gospels.

January 28 and February 4 will be a discussion session based on a reading of this Gospel.

If you aren’t able to read the Gospel, come anyway! You’ll still glean information from the discussion.

    • What surprised you?
    • How does Mark’s depiction of Jesus differ from other readings or our own images and ideas?
    • What did you expect to see but didn’t find?
    • What is Mark emphasizing?

    Prepare for Lent

On February 11 we will prepare for Lent by discussing the benefits of being willing to examine and own our own mistakes. The ideas for this class session are loosely based on the book Mistakes Were Made (But Not By Me) by Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson. The book is not required reading for the class.
