Holiday donations for people at Hopelink Kenmore Place

Thank you once again to everyone who donated food items to the families experiencing housing insecurity living at Hopelink Kenmore Place for Thanksgiving.

It is time for our end of year donations for these families. There are changes this year.

Food donations

As we look ahead to Christmas, we continue to evolve to best meet the needs of the families experiencing housing insecurity at Kenmore Place. We have received feedback from the staff and the families we serve about what works best for them. They benefit most from a gift card that they can use to buy food of their choosing for a holiday meal, instead of a food basket with pre-purchased items.

With this in mind, Church of the Redeemer will provide each of the 11 families with a $100 gift card for food. We are asking you to donate in what ever amount you are able to help us to meet the goal of raising $1100 total.

To donate, go to Giving on the Redeemer website, select the blue Give button, and, from the To list, select Hopelink Christmas Food. We need your donation of any amount of money by December 19, 2021.

Gift donations

Kenmore Place has asked us to provide a variety of gifts for different ages to residents throughout the year for various occasions. This could be when a new family move in, for birthdays, or other occasion. To subscribe for a gift, go to Hopelink Kenmore Place holiday donations.

Please leave all gifts unwrapped. Bring them to Church of the Redeemer on Sunday, December 19, to give to Michelle Henderson.

Time for a strong finish for Thanksgiving donations

We had a strong start for Thanksgiving food donations for Hopelink Kenmore Place this November. People have already fully subscribed turkeys, pies, pie toppings, and butter.

Now we need a strong finish for those facing housing insecurity at Kenmore Place for Thanksgiving.

As of noon on Wednesday, November 17, we still need the following subscribed for delivery to Redeemer this coming Sunday, November 21.

Kenmore Place food donations going great

Thanks to a number of people, the annual Thanksgiving food donation for those experiencing housing insecurity at Hopelink Kenmore Place is going great. The needed quantity for some of items have already reached their goal.

However, we need people to show some love for potatoes, carrots, celery, and a few other items.

Thanksgiving meal donations for 2021
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. We will again provide families experiencing housing insecurity living at Hopelink Kenmore Place with a Thanksgiving meal. Please sign up to donate food items on the Church of the Redeemer website.

Deliver your Thanksgiving meal donations to Redeemer on Sunday, November 21

Susan Switzer is in charge of assembling and delivering the food baskets. Please drop off your food items on Sunday, November 21, during one of these times.
- Outside the undercroft doors (lower entrance on the main building) from 7:45 to 8:00 am and from 9:00 to10:00 am.
- Inside the Education Building between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm.
Distribute the Thanksgiving meal donations to Kenmore Place on Monday, November 22

Susan needs around 5 volunteers (or the equivalent of 2-3 couples or families) to help deliver the food baskets on Monday, November 22. To volunteer, send an email to hkp@redeemer-kenmore.org. Plan to arrive at Redeemer at 12:30 pm on the November 22. The estimated delivery time to Hopelink Kenmore Place is around 1:00 to1:30 pm.

School supplies drive results for 2021

“Thank you” to everyone who contributed to Hopelink Kenmore Place school supplies drive for 2021. We were able to fill 16 backpacks for the students at Kenmore Place. The backpacks were delivered in time for school.

Thank you so much for your generosity!

Each year people at Church of the Redeemer donate money and school supplies for the families experiencing housing insecurity at Kenmore Place. Each child receives a grade-appropriate backpack stuffed with supplies that they will need to get the school year off to a good start.

Hopelink Kenmore Place outreach for Fall 2021
The planned outreach activities for Fall 2021 through Church of the Redeemer for those experiencing housing insecurity living at Hopelink Kenmore Place are School supplies, Thanksgiving food baskets, and Christmas activities.

School supplies

Susan Switzer oversees school supplies donation to children living at Kenmore Place annually. Read this to see how you can help this year.

Thanksgiving food baskets

It remains to be seen if church services will be in-person or only on YouTube during the fall months.
- If services are in-person, there will be a food sign up display posted in the parish hall.
- If services are on-line, provision will be made for on-line sign-up.
Either way, the sign-up starts October 31, 2021.

Food basket delivery is on November 22, 2021, at a time to be determined. The staff at Kenmore Place has given the green light for us to knock and deliver the food door-to-door.

Susan Switzer will oversee basket assembly and delivery on November 22. This involves the following, at a minimum:
- Open the church building.
- Make sure all necessary items are in each basket.
- Help volunteers.
Also, Susan may make in-person announcements at church services to remind people to sign up in the parish hall.

Our biggest need right now to find people to help on November 22. On delivery day, we need three or four people to assemble and deliver the baskets. Please let Michele Henderson, hkp@redeemer-kenmore.org, know if you would like to help.

Gift cards will be purchased for each family to buy the main course of their choice.

Christmas activities

Church of the Redeemer plans several activities during December for those living at Kenmore Place.

Shopping trip

There will be no shopping trip again this year due to COVID-19.

Christmas gifts

Christmas gifts will be very different beginning this year and moving forward. Hopelink has changed their policy for gifts to residents. We are no longer allowed to give personal gifts.

Instead, we will have a general gift sign-up and give unwrapped gifts to Kenmore Place. These gifts will be distributed throughout the year on children’s birthdays or when they move in as a “welcome” gift. Information will be made available on how to sign up as we approach this time.

Sign-ups for gifts will be posted on November 28, 2021.

Christmas food baskets

Christmas food baskets will be handled like the Thanksgiving food baskets. Gift cards will be purchased for the main course. A display board (or on-line sign-up) will be provided for other items.

We do not know an exact date or time for delivery yet. This must be coordinated with staff at Kenmore Place. We are hoping to do delivery on either December 21, 22, or 23, 2021.

In addition to the baskets, this day will also be the time that we deliver the unwrapped gifts for later distribution.

Sign-ups for food baskets will be posted on November 28, 2021.

2020 holiday giving results
The annual Christmas gift and food basket collection for Hopelink Kenmore Place at Church of the Redeemer was adapted this year because of COVID-19. We could donate money towards a $100 Safeway gift card for the 11 residences at Kenmore Place. We could also donate money to a gift fund for all Hopelink locations. The giving continues.

Michelle Henderson, who organized Redeemer’s giving efforts this Christmas, said “Thank you to everyone who donated and looking forward to 2021 when we can once again gather to do the shopping trip and prepare the gifts and food baskets.” She also said that Hopelink raised about $75,000 to help families in need all over the region.

Any extra money raised for the special Safeway gift cards for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays goes towards the regular Safeway gift cards purchased through the rest of year for Kenmore Place. To donate for these cards, go to Giving on the Redeemer website, select the Give button, and then select Outreach from the To list.

Thanksgiving 2020 for Hopelink Kenmore Place
Due to COVID-19, Hopelink has suspended all donations of physical items to their facilities. They do not have staff to sanitize everything that comes in. Instead, they are asking for monetary donations.

Thanksgiving still happens. Church of the Redeemer and Holy Apostles will again be supplying Thanksgiving Baskets in the form of a $100 Safeway grocery card. Each family can fill their own Thanksgiving Food Basket. The cards will be given to the residents on Monday, November 23, to give them time to shop.

Donations may be made in any amount, no matter how small. You can fund an entire basket or any portion thereof.

If you choose to donate online (from Giving at the top of this page), please specify Shelter-Thanksgiving from the To list. For checks, send them to PO Box 82677, Kenmore, WA 98028, with “Shelter-Thanksgiving” in the memo.

Thank you to all the generous donations for our school supplies drive! Because of you, the students living at Hopelink Kenmore Place all have the supplies they need to get a good start in this unconventional school year. Each student has a backpack full of age-appropriate supplies. The younger grades students also have age-appropriate placemats to help create a special place for their school day.

Donate to the School Supplies Drive for 2020

Make your donations now for needed school supplies to give to children living at Hopelink Kenmore Place. Please donate by Friday, August 21, 2020, so students have these items in time for school to start.

While this year looks a lot different for both shopping and education, the children and their families still need our support.

The efforts and generosity of our Redeemer parishioners are always so appreciated by those in Kenmore Place. We want to be sure to continue to support them as they navigate remote learning from home.
