Vestry update: Redeemer Planning, June 7, 2026

At the recent listening sessions, our Vestry shared some information about thoughts on the future of Redeemer. This is a recap of information presented at the sessions.

    Relèven Projects

We have a two-pronged approach to Relèven projects:

    1. We are endeavoring to rent out Redeemer space more heavily, creating a “Community Hub.” The goal is to serve our neighborhood by providing needed space while also earning needed income for Redeemer. We would love to have a parish volunteer who is detailed-oriented to help us keep track of space and income. Please see Rev. Theresa Newell if you are interested.
    2. We are investigating developing Redeemer’s land. Two developers have submitted proposals, and our committee will be meeting with each the first week of June. Once we pick a developer who we feel will make a good partner, we will then meet to determine goals and a plan. We will update you as this unfolds.
      • One is a for-profit developer interested in building housing for middle-income earners.
      • The other is a non-profit developer interested in investigating supportive or affordable housing with us.

    St. David Emmanuel

We are in the very early stages of exploration on any possible partnership with St. David Emmanuel Church in Shoreline. We have only had one meeting with their Bishop’s Committee thus far. So, we do not have any results or plans to present yet.

We will have a meeting between their wardens, our wardens, and a diocesan representative early next week (week of June 7). Rev. Theresa will be worshiping with them on June 14 to meet the parishioners.

If and when we have any specific ideas, we will update you.

    Vestry update: March 5, 2026

Since our annual meeting in January 2026, there have been a few projects that members of our congregation have been involved in at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.

New kitchen sink at Redeemer during installation.

    Kitchen sink

The sink in our kitchen has been replaced with a proper commercial sink. This sink will be easier to keep clean over time and should last us a very long time. We wish to thank those who worked on this project especially Bill McGlinn, Doug Reed, and Mike Howatt. They dedicated multiple days to planning and carrying out this work.

    AED

We want to thank Sharon Villa. She secured us a grant through the Daniel Phelps Foundation to help us get an AED. The AED has arrived and will be installed in the parish hall where our congregants and renters can access it. We will provide another update once this is installed.

    What is an AED?

    Outreach

In outreach, we along with Northlake Lutheran Church, successfully provided food for 8 families during the mid-winter break. Their children usually get free or reduced-priced lunches from Kenmore Elementary School. This happened . We hope that we can continue to find new opportunities to serve the Kenmore community through these partnerships with Northlake Lutheran and Kenmore Elementary.

    Hub Team

The Rev. Theresa Newell has assembled a Hub Team. They have been assigned the goal to clarify our rental agreements and work with rental partners.

Relèven will also be supporting us in this effort. We have more to share related to our next phase of work with Relèven in another update.

    Vestry

The Vestry is the board of directors of the parish. The members of the Vestry seek to understand and respond to the issues that come up, as in any organization. This includes these areas:

    • Finance
    • Maintenance
    • Operations

The Vestry manages parish finances and buildings. They also keep members of the Redeemer community informed about the direction and future of the parish. At the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Parish, the decision was made to reduce the number elected each year to three people, down from four.

Vestry members come from all walks of life. They serve for 3 years. The Vestry meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m.

The following are the current members of the Vestry at Church of Redeemer:

  • Vestry report on stewardship

    Vestry report on stewardship

    My friends,

First, thank you to everyone who has pledged. We appreciate your generosity and commitment to the Church of the Redeemer. We have received a total of $208,000 in pledges. However, our projected need is $287,000. The 2015 expenses are about $60,000 more than last year.

Our expenses have increased because in 2014 we had a fulltime priest for only half a year. The office staff also left last year. So we did not have the full cost of these expenses. This year

    • We are paying the salary and benefits for our full time rector this year.
    • We paid for the moving expenses.
    • We plan on hiring an administrative assistant to replace Tim who left last year.
    • We have done some small upgrades to the building including the rector’s office, the nursery and maintenance for our sacred space

At this time our pledges do not meet our expenses. If you have not yet pledged we urge you to do so. If you have already pledged, please consider increasing your pledge.

    Grace and Peace,

The Rector and Wardens of the Church of the Redeemer
