  • Hopelink Kenmore Place Holiday collection

Episcopal Church of the Redeemer plans again this year to help families with food and housing insecurity during the holiday season. The plan is to give a $100 grocery store gift card to each family living at Hopelink Kenmore Place.

Donate at Outreach – Hopelink Kenmore Programs so we can meet our goal. Please give what you can to help families facing housing insecurity.

Long-standing help for families at Hopelink Kenmore Place

Church of the Redeemer has taken on projects for 40 years to help residents at Hopelink Kenmore Place. If Redeemer receives more contributions than necessary for each family to receive a $100 gift card, either or both of the following things will happen:

    • The extra money will go towards other needs at Kenmore Place.
    • The amount of the grocery gift card could be increased.

All the money earmarked for Hopelink Kenmore programs this way goes towards families at Hopelink Kenmore Place. Please be generous.

If you have any questions, please email Michelle Henderson at hkp@redeemer-kenmore.org.

Thanks to everyone who made those gifts possible.

    December goals

Our goal this Advent 2024 is to raise enough money to give each family another $100 gift card. Please donate by December 15, 2024.

Gift card purchase for families facing housing insecurity

The holiday season is upon us! This time of year is about practicing gratitude and giving to others. Hopelink Kenmore Place, just around the corner from Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, is a transitional housing community for 11 families experiencing housing insecurity.

Throughout the month of November, we are collecting monetary donations to purchase a $100 gift card for each family. These cards will be given to the families before Thanksgiving.

If you would like to donate towards a gift card, you may do so on the Giving page on the Redeemer website. By selecting this link, your gift will automatically go to Outreach – Hopelink Kenmore Programs. You won’t need to select that from the menu.

The families facing housing insecurity at Kenmore Place appreciate the help you provide.

Stay tuned for more ways that we will be helping these families in the month of December.

  • 2023 School Supply Drive results

    2023 School Supply Drive results

In August 2023, Church of the Redeemer in Kenmore, Washington, sponsored a school supply drive for the families experiencing housing insecurity at Hopelink Kenmore Place. Donors filled 17 backpacks for kids ranging from 4 years old to 17 years old! With community help, these students start their year on an equal footing with their peers.

It costs about $50 to fill a backpack for an elementary-aged student. It costs about $100 for a backpack for middle and high school students. This is a huge barrier for those experiencing homelessness.

Church of the Redeemer provides regular support to families at Kenmore Place throughout the year. Then there are times, such as this, where extra support is provided.

    Thank you for caring.

  • School supply donation drive for Hopelink Kenmore Place families

School supply donation drive for Hopelink Kenmore Place families

Soon children will be returning to school. This includes the children in families experiencing housing insecurity. For over five years, Church of the Redeemer in Kenmore, Washington, has had a school supply drive for these families at Hopelink Kenmore Place. You can help.

“My mother was a teacher. From her, I learned the importance of being ready to learn when the school year starts,” says Susan Switzer, who heads this drive. “School supplies are so expensive. Families experiencing homelessness have no money to spare to buy supplies for their children.”

This year’s drive lasts from now until August 20, 2023. Hopelink has given Redeemer the list of items needed. Go to bit.ly/COR-HKPdonations to donate items from this list or to donate money.

Because people give to this school supply drive, a child facing housing insecurity will have pencils when school starts.

    Donate school supplies

To donate school supplies, from bit.ly/COR-HKPdonations choose from the on-line catalog. It works as an on-line store because it uses store software. Once you’ve selected your donations, go to your favorite store to buy them, and bring them to Redeemer. Deliver them to the main doors at Redeemer on Sunday mornings from now through August 20, 2023.

Do not deliver your donations during the week, as there are times when no one can receive your donations. Do not bring your donations to the parish hall on the lower level.

    Donate money

Redeemer accepts money donations for this drive, too. Things always happen that cannot go into the plans, like new residents. From bit.ly/COR-HKPdonations, use the link to donate money earmarked for the school supply drive. Any extra funds received will go to Redeemer’s other outreach efforts with Kenmore Place.

Before loading the backpacks with school supplies in 2022.

    Load the backpacks

Everyone is invited to load the backpacks with school supplies on Sunday, August 27, after the 10:30 am service.

Later that week the loaded backpacks will be taken to Kenmore Place.

    Questions

If you have any questions, Susan Switzer and Jillian Gerke are spearheading the school supply drive this year. In addition to talking to them on Sunday mornings, you can send a message to hkpschoolsupplies@redeemer-kenmore.org.

    Thank you for caring.
